Bena Village is one megalith villages in Indonesia. Located in Aimere sub district, Ngada regency, East Nusa Tenggara.
The village is located east of Mount Inerie (2245 Meter) with a distance of 17.5 km from Bajawa, Ngada district capital. Bena, can be reached from Bajawa, also from Ende direction.
Bena is known as one of the villages that still retains the tradition of traditional houses (Rumah Adat), which were inherited from their ancestors in ancient times. This village has more than 40 traditional houses.
Life in the village of Bena still retains the stone age culture that has not changed much since 1,200 years ago. Called “Bena” because it is said that the name of the first original person who lived in the area is Bena.
The traditional architecture of traditional houses with reed roofs (imperata cylindrical) combined with the arrangement of mountain rocks, proves that this village is a remnant of megalithic civilization that still survive until now.
There are several tribes who inhabit the custom house. Among them are: Dizi, Dizi Azi, Wahto, Derul Lalulewa, Derama Solamae, Ngada, Khopa, and Ago.There are nine (9) levels that distinguish one tribe from another. Each tribe is at one altitude level.
In the middle of the village there are several buildings called Bhaga and Ngadhu. The Bhaga building looks like a small hut (no occupants). While the Ngadu building resembles a shelter cottage.
In Ngadu building, there is a pole made of special and hard wood which serves as a hanging place for sacrificial animals during traditional ceremonies.
The livelihood of the people in this village farms in the hills of Inrie mountain, and usually women have weaving activities. Weaving products are usually sold directly to tourists or sometimes sold to Bajawa, Ngada City.
